The Graduate Program in Entomology (PPGEN) of the Federal University of Lavras acts in the formation of Masters and Doctors in Entomology, aiming at the formation of researchers, professors and technicians, specialized in the areas of concentration in basic and applied entomology, preferably the areas of Agricultural and Earth Sciences, Biological and Health Sciences, Forest Engineering and Forest Resources, and the like. PPGEN has an Entomology Concentration Area and two lines of research: Integrated Pest Management and Biological Pest Control, and Insect Biology and Ecology. The objective of the Program is to train professionals with solid theoretical and practical knowledge, with a view to technological innovation and entrepreneurship, to act in solving general and specific problems of entomology in Brazil and in the world, thus aiming to fulfill the demands of training of professionals in the teaching, research and extension sectors and meeting the demands of society. The financial resources of the Graduate Program in Entomology come from the allocation of the Institutional Graduate Support Program (PROAP)/CAPES, to which the UFLA Graduate Programs belong. However, PPGEN's professors have obtained funding for their research projects from various sources of public and private resources, which demonstrate the Program's ability to seek resources against those provided by CAPES. In addition to these, PPGEN has master and doctoral scholarships granted by public and private agencies. The selection process is annual and occasionally semiannual, with application of knowledge tests in Entomology and English, which are taught in various regions of Brazil and abroad.
