Welcome to the portal of the Graduate Program in Systems Engineering and Automation (PPGESISA) of the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA).

PPGESISA's main mission is the training of professionals of excellence — prepared for both academic careers and industry — in the field of Systems Engineering and Automation.

Our focus is on promoting the dissemination of knowledge and the development of solutions aimed at technological innovation and the well-being of society.

Our objective is to train highly qualified human resources to act as professors and researchers in educational institutions, as well as to qualify professionals to join teams in the private sector, developing projects and products with a high standard of quality and technology.

The PPGESISA graduate stands out for their analytical capacity, technical mastery, and ability to propose and lead projects with strong scientific and social impact.

We operate in the concentration area of Systems Engineering and Automation (Engineering IV of CAPES), which is currently divided into two main research lines: 

• Intelligent Systems: This line is dedicated to the development of advanced computational systems for modeling and solving complex real-world problems. The focus is on the application of techniques inspired by the functioning of the human brain and natural processes (bio-inspired systems). Research in this line encompasses machine learning, artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems, pattern recognition, cluster analysis, computational intelligence, signal and image processing and analysis, computer vision, and evolutionary computation.

• Systems Automation and Instrumentation: This line focuses on the study, monitoring, and design of modern systems in their various specialties. The goal is to drive the creation of innovative technologies and robust architectures that ensure high performance and new functionalities for society and industry. Projects include the development of smart cities and vehicles, mobile robotics, the creation of new sensors, telecommunications and multimedia systems, as well as optical metrology.

To this end, PPGESISA relies on essential funding and support from funding agencies (such as CAPES, CNPq, and FAPEMIG), in addition to constantly fostering Research and Development (R&D) projects in solid partnerships with the corporate sector.

Our selection processes take place semi-annually, and the number of vacancies varies according to the availability and supervision demands of our faculty in each public notice.
