Dragon fruit (Selenicereus undatus (Haw.) D.R.Hunt) is a commercially important cactus with increasing global demand. In vitro propagation has emerged as a promising alternative to overcome limitations of conventional multiplication methods. However, the influence of specific light spectra on its development remains underexplored. Considering the crucial role of light in plant morphogenesis, this study aimed to investigate the effect of different LED light spectra (Light-Emitting Diodes) on the in vitro performance of S. undatus, with emphasis on biometric, biochemical, and anatomical responses. Clonal explants were cultivated for 120 days in Murashige and Skoog (1962) culture medium without plant regulators, supplemented with 30 g L−1 of sucrose and 5,0 g L−1 of agar (pH 6,0), under six LED light treatments: white, purple (2:1 blue: red), blue, red, green, and orange, Light spectra significantly affected all evaluated parameters. White, blue, red, and purple LEDs contributed to improved biometric traits. Blue light was associated with changes in root anatomy, while white light influenced cladode development. Regarding photosynthetic pigments, blue and white LEDs showed consistent results, whereas green and orange LEDs were associated with reduced physiological and structural responses. These findings indicate that light spectrum selecting can influence the efficiency of in vitro propagation of S. undatus. White and blue LEDs demonstrated favorable responses across multiple variables, while green and orange were less effective under the tested conditions.
