NEW COURSE: Introduction to Agent-based Models course

We are pleased to announce a new course offered by the Computer Science Master's Program starting this semester. Professor Eric Araújo will teach the multidisciplinary course "Introduction to Agent-based Models", aiming to provide a new approach in understanding complex problems through computational simulations. The course will be instructed in English, and registration is open until the 20th of August for students from other programs.

This course will explore the world of Agent-Based Models, also known as ABMs. These models are useful to solve complex problems in a vast number of fields. The focus will be on studying how ABMs can be helpful in understanding complex systems. The course will provide a historic background on how ABMs emerged, enriched with examples from economics to biology to political science systems. We will also learn how to build rigorous models from zero using Netlogo as the main tool, as well as to evaluate and understand the results obtained. No programming knowledge is required, and students from other fields of study besides informatics are welcome to join us!
