Plant Physiology

The PPGFV-UFLA trains masters and doctors with a proactive and leadership profile, according to ethical and humanist principles qualified technically and scientifically in Plant Physiology. Its objectives are: 1 - generation and transfer of knowledge in Plant Physiology through high level teaching activities, the development of cutting-edge research and the dissemination of results; 2 - generation of technological innovation aimed at regional and national development in the area of plant physiology of economic, social and environmental interest; 3 - qualification of professionals for the teaching of Plant Physiology as an essential basic discipline at any level of citizen and professional formation. It has a decentralized selection process, with two annual calls and it has financial support from national (CAPES and CNPq) and state (FAPEMIG) funding agencies, as well as partnerships with private companies. PPGFV-UFLA has a single concentration area: plant physiology; an essential area for understanding the theoretical and applied aspects of crop production, as it addresses the fundamental mechanisms of conversion of solar energy into organic matter that result in products of economic, social or environmental value of plant origin (food, fiber, energy, essences, services or other goods). There are four lines of research: 1- Plant biochemistry, nutrition and metabolism: aims to better understand how environmental conditions affect plant physiology. 2- Plant growth and development physiology: studies how stimuli of the physical or biotic environment regulate plant physiology. 3 - Applied plant physiology: employs current technological advances in the physiology of agricultural production and for the recovery of areas of natural vegetation. 4 - Macrophysiology: physiological approaches on large spatial and temporal scales, particularly in the face of environmental variations or anthropic actions. In all lines of research, PPGFV-UFLA develops basic research and technologies aimed at advancing tropical agriculture. This biotechnological knowledge is applied to crop production in the form of physiological regulation to reduce negative impacts in the face of environmental stresses or to optimize yield gains in the availability and application of inputs.
