Environmental Technologies and Innovations

The Graduate Program in Environmental Technologies and Innovations Professional Master's Degree (PPGTIA) aims to train qualified professionals with multidisciplinary knowledge, capable of enabling solutions that contribute to sustainable regional and national development, especially with regard to the use of socially and environmentally responsible natural resources in public and private institutions. The graduate of PPGTIA should be a professional with scientific and technological training in the field of environmental sciences able to understand, develop and apply technologies to natural and anthropogenic processes that impact the environment, with reflective, critical and creative vision; and with competence to identify, formulate and solve problems, aiming at full human development combined with environmental balance. PPGTIA offers vacancies annually, for the second semester, in a concentration area (Environmental Technologies and Innovations) and three lines of research: 1) Waste and Effluent Management - it covers the analysis of processes and technologies for the treatment of water, liquid and gaseous effluents and solid waste, proposing the generation of knowledge to understand the effect of human action on the environment. It trains professionals to work in the diagnosis, prevention and solution of environmental problems, seeking to improve environmental quality, always with technological innovation. 2) Ecosystem Restoration and Conservation - it studies issues related to knowledge, management, zoning strategies/environmental planning and restoration of degraded forest ecosystems, in addition to the environmental licensing process and implementation of environmental certification processes, aiming at the qualification of professionals to acting in private companies and governmental environmental agencies. 3) Soil and its Interface with the Environment - it aims to understand the dynamics and flow of nutrients and pollutants in the soil system as one of the necessary actions for the sustainable management of this matrix. Studying these interactions constitutes an important stage for food production, depollution of diverse agroecosystems and carbon sequestration in different biomes.
