RESUMO:

Anew species of Pseudobombax (Bombacoideae, Malvaceae) is described from Furados, Caatingas Domain, Brazil. The new species is morphologically similar to Pseudobombax simplicifolium A.Robyns, but differs by the obovate to widely depressed obovate leaflets, the presence of branched trichomes on terminal branches, leaf primordia, petioles, adaxial and abaxial surface of leaflets, pedicel, bracteoles and outer surface of the calyx, relative reduced number of stamens, the ovary lepidote and the seeds subglobose, ovoid to oblong and spotted. Here we describe this new taxon and discuss some aspects of ecology, distribution and conservation.
