Presentation

The Graduate Program in Agrochemical (PPGAQ) began its activities in March 1998 with the Master's degree and in 2006 with the Doctorate course. Since 2013 PPGAQ has been rated with grade 5 at CAPES. PPGAQ aims to: qualify high-level human resources for research, extension, management and teaching in the areas of agrarian sciences and chemistry; contribute to the development of innovative and environmentally compatible products and technological processes and to base scientific and pedagogical conduct on ethical and socially responsible standards. Over the years, several graduates of the Program have held teaching positions in various Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and elementary schools; many are high school and university technicians and many hold positions in private companies. The Program has three well-established lines of research: (i) Biochemistry, Cachaça Technology and Natural and Synthetic Products: they act in the evaluation, purification and identification of different biological activities of plant active principles (antioxidant, insecticide, parasitic, fungicide, bactericide, antitumor, obesity and diabetes control and neurodegenerative disease control) and the evaluation of the quality of alcoholic beverages; (ii) Environmental Chemistry applied to Agriculture: they act in the applicability of chemistry in environmental agriculture as in the use/transformation of residues into materials of technological value, preparation of catalysts and adsorbents for environmental applications, biofuel production and development of electrochemical sensors to determine organic and inorganic contaminants for agriculture; (iii) Computational Chemistry Applied in Agriculture: they act in the application of modern chemistry combined with computational modeling, such as the development of compounds of therapeutic and agrochemical interest (QSAR), molecular modeling of macromolecules, conformational analysis and computational catalysis. The periodicity of the admission process occurs annually, always in the first half of the year, however, depending on demand, the PPGAQ offers vacancies in the second half. The Program has financial support from PROAP/CAPES, in addition to funding agencies such as FAPEMIG, CNPq and FINEP.
