The present study aims to translate and adapt, in a cross-cultural way, the instrument for self-assessment of teaching styles adopted by Physical Education teachers. The Spectrum of Teaching Styles, proposed by Muska Mosston, came to provide the teacher with different ways of conducting the class, allowing a variation in styles and attending to the various areas of development. The teaching styles present the same organizational structure, but with variations in relation to decision-making before, during and after classes. The methodological process to be covered goes through 5 phases, the first is the translation of the instrument into the desired language, being carried out by two independent bilingual translators. The second phase is the synthesis of the translated versions, which consists of comparing the different translations and evaluating their semantic, idiomatic, conceptual, linguistic and contextual discrepancies, in order to arrive at a single version. Then, the third phase, the evaluation of the synthesis by Experts in the area of the instrument. The fourth phase aims to verify that the items, instructions and response scale are understandable to the target audience. And finally, the last phase, which comprises the reverse translation, which refers to translating the synthesized and revised version of the instrument into the source language.

RESUMO:

O presente estudo tem como objetivo a tradução e adaptação, de forma transcultural, do instrumento de auto avaliação dos estilos de ensino adotados nas aulas de Educação Física escolar. O Espectro de Estilos de Ensino, proposto por Muska Mosston, veio para disponibilizar, ao professor, diferentes maneiras de conduzir a aula, possibilitando uma variação nos estilos e atendendo as várias áreas do desenvolvimento humano. Os estilos de ensino apresentam uma mesma estrutura de organização, porém com variações em relação às tomadas de decisão antes, durante e após as aulas. O processo metodológico a ser percorrido contém cinco etapas. A primeira é a tradução do instrumento para o idioma desejado, sendo realizado por dois tradutores bilíngues independentes. A segunda etapa é a síntese das versões traduzidas, que consiste em comparar as diferentes traduções e avaliar as suas discrepâncias semânticas, idiomáticas, conceituais, linguísticas e contextuais, com o objetivo de se chegar a uma versão única. Em seguida, a terceira etapa consiste na avaliação da síntese por experts na área do instrumento. A quarta visa verificar se os itens, as instruções e a escala de resposta são compreensíveis para o público-alvo. E por fim, a última etapa compreende a tradução reversa, onde refere-se a traduzir a versão sintetizada e revisada do instrumento para o idioma de origem.
